Little and Seven

Goodnight Folks,

I just wanted to stop by really quickly and share some insight on how we spell words which have more than one syllable.

Take for example the word little.  The word little has two syllables: lit and tle. To make students aware of this fact I encourage them to clap the word: lit / tle.  We the count the claps in the word little. There are two claps.  I then inform students that the word little has two syllables or two parts.

The same applies to the word seven.  Let’s clap seven: se / ven.  Seven also has two syllables or two parts and therefore that’s how we break down the word to spell it.

Have fun spelling,

Miss Foster
